Winter Car
Care! |
|
The following is a
checklist from Telco Triad for keeping
your car in top shape for winter.
Rotate all-season radials
–Rotating tires regularly extends their life
and will give you better braking and
handling. This is especially important when
you’re driving on wet or snowy roads that are typical
during winter.
Wiper blades check
– Your wipers work hard all winter wiping
away dirt and debris on your windshield. It
is a good idea to replace them in frequently
to help ensure good visibility.
Brake check
– One of the warning signs is
brake noise, including excessive grinding,
squealing, screeching or chatter. Worn
brakes can make your car swerve during
winter braking because one wheel may grab
more than the other. Good brakes are
important for winter driving.
Keep Winter survival
items in the trunk.
Keeping winter parkas and boots as well as
water, food and a source of light can be a
life saver if you are stranded or end up off
the road. Remember that if your car gets
into a snow bank and gets covered with snow
you need to make a hole in the snow to let
fresh air into the car. Run your car for 15
minutes with the heat on then turn it off
for 15 minutes. This is the most efficient
use of gas and conserves heat.
Change oil
– Winter driving can break down the
viscosity of your oil. Change your cars oil
using the manufacturers specifications.
Check all fluids to make sure they’re topped
up
– In the winter months fluids are easily
depleted as your engine works harder in the
cold weather. Make sure to double-check all
the cars fluids regularly.
Wash your car
– Wash and polish your car to remove winter
grime. This will help extend the life of
your cars body.
